KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WACH) -- Two missing North Carolina teens were found dead in Kershaw County Sunday night.

Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers confirmed Monday the bodies found are those of 18-year-old Jake Ziegler and 17-year-old Ray Pierce of Catawba County, North Carolina.

Kershaw County Deputies along with the South Carolina Highway Patrol were investigating a car found underneath the bridge in the Wateree River on Interstate-20 eastbound near the 96 mile marker near Camden. The teens were found inside the vehicle.

Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews tells WACH Fox News that the bumper and license plate found separated from the car were from the vehicle that  Ziegler and Pierce were driving.

Authorities were tipped off about the location by a C.U.E. Center for Missing Persons search team.

Fellers said the car ran off the road and down an embankment, ending up in about 10 feet of water.

A tow-truck pulled the car out of the river around 8 p.m. Sunday.

The two teens were students at Bandys High School and went missing on October 13 as they were reportedly headed to Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The search had previously been focused in Fairfield County near Interstate-77 where Ziegler used his cell phone last to send a text message at 2:45 a.m. that morning.

Autopsies are scheduled for Monday.
