CAMDEN, S.C. (WACH / AP) -- Two statues were unveiled in Camden to honor men who helped the city more 250 years ago.
The statues of Catawba Indian King Hagler and Col. Joseph Kershaw were dedicated at 3 p.m. Thursday at Town Green near downtown.
Kershaw was one of the founders of Camden, moving to the region on 1758 and helping to plan South Carolina's oldest inland town.
Mayor Jeffrey Graham and Cathy Richardson, Director of the Camden Archives and Museum were in attendance.
Hagler was a member of the Catawba Indian Nation who helped residents of Camden and the South Carolina militia fight off the French during the French and Indian War in the 1750s and 1760s.
The statues are being donated by Greenville lawyer Johnny Hagins Jr. in honor of his father John Hagins Sr., who was a businessman in Camden for 60 years.
Mayor Graham gave Hagins a key to the City of Camden.
