COLUMBIA (WACH) - A man trimming a tree with co-workers in North Columbia collapsed and died Tuesday afternoon, according to the Richland County Coroner.

Coroner Gary Watts says 52-year-old Rodney W. Waiters had climbed a tree and cut the top portion out when he collapsed.

According to Watts, the Columbia Fire Department responded with EMS and they brought him down from the tree. Waiters was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy is pending final results, but no signs of trauma were found, said Watts. The work being performed in the tree did not contribute to Waiters' death.
