Suspect in Five Points chase charged with attempted murder

Columbia (WACH)- The suspect in an officer related shooting that ended at a bank in Five Points in August is now charged with Attempted Murder.

According to warrants issued by SLED, Scott Parker Hanson, of Elgin, is charged with the attempted murder of officers S.M Groubert and J.W. Tompkins. On August 17, Trooper Groubert observed Hanson speeding along I-20.
Groubert stopped Hanson, but Hanson drove off.  Groubert pursued him.

Trooper First Class J.W. Tompkins joined in the chase along Forest Drive.

The chase ended with a shootout at the Wells Fargo bank at the corner of Blossom Street and Saluda Avenue.
