COLUMBIA (WACH) - Officials with the Columbia Police Department say an officer-involved shooting occurred Monday afternoon. One person was injured.

According to a spokesperson with the department, gunfire was exchanged on the 700 block of Vernon Street between at least one suspect and an officer on patrol in the area.

Police say one suspect was struck in the exhange. The suspect was hit in the leg.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating.
