CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Everyone knows about Myrtle Beach, Charleston and Hilton Head Island as popular tourism destinations.

But the state tourism campaign for next spring will also focus on so-called undiscovered places in South Carolina.

Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Duane Parrish says the $2.5 million campaign will work to attract visitors to lesser known attractions.

Those might range from the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Trail in the Upstate to Beaufort, Walterboro or Conway near the coast. He says the state can have a greater impact in generating more tourism in those areas.

The campaign will work to attract visitors more apt to be interested in outdoor activities, shopping, antiquing and exploring the state's history and cuisine. Tourism is a $15 billion industry in South Carolina.
