COLUMBIA (WACH) - An evergreen tree and a palmetto tree were hoisted by a crane Tuesday morning to the highest point of the Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge facility.

The topping out celebration brought Palmetto Health administrators, physicians and employees together with Rodgers Builders, JHS Architecture and HKS Architects. While there are months of work ahead before the new hospital will be complete, the ritual represents the safe and successful attainment of the highest point.

Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge is scheduled to be completed in December 2013 is and is located on a 75-acre pedestrian and traffic-friendly campus.

Authorities say the $100 million hospital will provide high-quality, state-of-the-art inpatient, medical, surgical and emergency care to residents of Irmo, Harbison, Chapin, Dutch Fork, and surrounding areas.
