JENKINSVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Electric & Gas is testing its emergency sirens at a nuclear power plant in Fairfield County.

The utility says it is sounding the warning system around the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

SCE&G says it will test the 106 sirens within a 10-mile radius around the plant for one minute. The company regularly tests the sirens each quarter.

During a real emergency, SCE&G says the sirens would go off for three minutes and alert people in the area to tune into to radio or television stations for more information and instructions.
