COLUMBIA (WACH) - Attorney Alan Wilson announced the arrest of William Christopher Spivey, 35, of  Driftwood Rd. in Lexington, SC for criminal solicitation of a minor and attempted dissemination of obscene material to a minor under 12 years of age.

Spivey turned himself into the Richland County Sheriff's Department on September 27, 2012. The Richland County Sheriff's Department is a member of the Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Spivey was arrested on five counts of Criminal Solicitation of a Minor, a felony offense punishable to ten years imprisonment on each count and Attempted Dissemination of Obscene Material to a Minor 12 or younger, a felony punishable to fifteen years imprisonment.

Arrest warrants allege that between July and August 2012, Spivey, while using the fictitious name "Chris Stephens", sent a 12 year-old girl messages stating he wanted to perform sexual acts on the victim, asking the victim for intercourse, and sent a sexually explicit picture of himself to her.

Wilson said the victim's mother discovered explicit messages on the girl's Facebook page. The mother immediately notified Deputies.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said that based on information investigators have received, they are working to determine if Spivey may have victimized others. They are hope any additional victims will come forward.

Sheriff Leon Lott and South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson are asking that if you or someone you know may have been a victim of Spivey, call the Richland County Sheriff's Department Special Victims Unit at (803) 576-3115.
