COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A rare collection of some 1,200 published works by Ernest Hemingway is being donated to the University of South Carolina.

The collection will be housed at the Columbia campus' Ernest Hollings Special Collections Library. The donor is Mississippi native Edgar Grissom, who amassed the works over a 50-year period.

University officials say the collection makes the school a top research center for the study of Hemingway because it includes some of the rarest of his published print works.

The collection includes many special items, such as a first edition of "The Sun Also Rises." It builds on a large array of Hemingway items already in the library.
