COLUMBIA (WACH / AP) - Police have arrested one man accused of shooting into a crowd at a local fast food restaurant. Another man is still wanted in connection with the crime.

Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott says Terrell Lamont Bethel, 23, is charged with seven counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, discharging a firearm into and occupied conveyance, drug possession and failure to stop on police command.

Scott says that at least two groups were arguing in the parking lot of a McDonald's on Two Notch Road just after 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15 when shots were fired.

Police say three people were hit by bullets.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says 20-year-old Steve McCoy of Elgin was killed in the shooting. An autopsy confirmed McCoy died from complications of a gunshot wound to the head.

Police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons says investigators do not think Bethel fired the shot that killed McCoy.

Scott says the police department has outstanding warrants for the arrest of 20-year-old Torance Lamar Peoples of Elgin. He is wanted on the same charges as Bethel.

Authorities are still investigating the shooting and more charges are pending.

Anyone with information on the shooting or the whereabouts of Peoples should contact CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
