COLUMBIA (WACH) - Creative minds from across the nation are stopping in the midlands to help beef up business for non-profit organizations.

CreateAthon, hosted by Riggs Partners, started in Columbia 15 years ago, but the movement has spread across the country over the years.

The "pro bono blitz" is a 24-hour session of non-stop work that benefits nine non-profit organizations.

More than 30 advertising, marketing and public relations professionals volunteer their time and expertise to develop brand enhancing materials for the nine programs.

Christine Gordon is participating in CreateAthon for a third year.

This year, she is working with her team to give The Arc of South Carolina a better brand identity. The agency is a non-profit that advocates for people with disabilities.

"They do a lot of good for the community, but without a story of the people that they're helping, or what they do, people lack that connection and disconnect - so we're going to fix that," said Gordon.

Margie Williamson, the director of The Arc of South Carolina, heard about CreateAthon through a board member. She knew it was an opportunity she couldn't pass up.

"Just for people to know who we are and what we do. [It's] such an awesome experience for a small, small organization like ourselves to be able to have someone work on something we would never have a chance to do," said Williamson.
