IRMO, SC (WACH) - Irmo police have released the identity of a suspect they say was shot during a home invasion.

Chief Brian Buck says 22-year-old Stephen Labrew is listed in critical condition after a homeowner shot him Tuesday morning.

The incident happened on Trinity Three Road in the Friarsgate neighborhood.

Buck says the homeowner woke up to the sound of banging and found Labrew breaking in through the kitchen window.

According to Buck, the homeowner then shot Labrew. Police say Labrew ran away from the home and later collapsed on North Royal Tower Drive.

Chief Buck says the homeowner is shaken up.

“He is concerned for his safety, concerned about Mr. Labrew’s health. He’s just overall worried,” said Buck at the Irmo Police Department Wednesday. “He made a decision, a very quick decision to defend himself, which by all indications we have found to be a good, correct decision.”

Buck says Labrew’s last address was in the Friarsgate neighborhood.
