SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- A Summerville family has snagged a 12-foot alligator on Lake Moultrie.

Sixteen-year-old Hali Lane tells WCSC-TV (bit.ly/OVqBY8 ) she was hunting on the lake around 11 o'clock one night this week with her father Chris and uncle John when she spotted the gator.

The three hooked several lines into the beast. John Lane says they wore the alligator out, pulled it up beside their boat and shot it.

The Department of Natural Resources says gators in the 12-foot to 13-foot range are rare, and the largest caught by the agency was in the 13-foot range.

Alligator hunting season runs until Oct. 13. DNR has issued 1200 hunting tags for alligators this year.
