COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Columbia City Council met Tuesday and decided to go forward with the plan for a seasonal outdoor ice skating rink in downtown Columbia.

The temporary rink will be available for use for two months, opening in the beginning of November and closing in January. The city is getting help from a company in Miami, Florida and the total project will cost more than 150,000 dollars.

Mayor Steve Benjamin says the project will pay for itself.

"We're stoked about it. I mean we're famously hot and suprisingly cool. We're going to have a good time in downtown Columbia creating experiences that families can enjoy,"said Mayor Benjamin.

Mayor Benjamin said the rink will bring more people downtown, supporting local businesses.
