BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) -- The city of Beaufort is donating more than $14,000 in services and fee waivers for next month's Lt. Dan Weekend. But city officials say this will be the last time.
The Beaufort Gazette reports Councilman Mike Sutton says the event doesn't meet the criteria for co-sponsorship because the city doesn't sponsor events that include the sale of alcohol.
The city says it will provide about $10,000 in police, parking and other services while waving more than $4,000 worth of fees.
The weekend is sponsored by the Independence Fund and brings injured veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars to Beaufort. The highlight of the weekend is a concert with actor Gary Sinise's Lt. Dan Band.
Sinise played a wounded vet in the movie "Forrest Gump."
