CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The Citadel's board has taken a step toward hiring an independent investigator to look into its handling of a complaint about a former camp counselor who later pled guilty to number of sex charges.

The school's board of visitors has agreed to hire an expert next week to recommend by Aug. 24 three appropriate firms to review the allegations.

The school wants an independent investigation of how it handled a complaint about counselor Louis ReVille in 2007. The complaint accused ReVille of showing porn to young boys at The Citadel's summer camp in 2002. The school did not notify police of the allegation.

ReVille is a Citadel graduate. He is serving a 50-year prison term after he pleaded guilty in June to molesting 23 boys in the Charleston area.
