KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WACH) - A Johnsonville man who is accused of inappropriately touching an 8-year-old is now also charged with two counts of solicitation to commit murder.

According to Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews, Brian Robert Sharpe, 25, attempted to hire another inmate while detained in the Kershaw County Detention Center to make sure the child victim and the child's mother did not testify against him.

Matthews says Sharpe asked the inmate to either do this himself, once he was released from jail, or to get someone else to do it. The inmate Sharpe spoke with reported the situation to jail staff, who contacted the sheriff's office.

Authorities say the inmate gave a detailed statement to investigators with the sheriff's office before meeting with Matthews, who then met with assistant Solicitors from the 5th Circuit Solicitor's Office in Camden. A decision was made to charge Sharpe with solicitation to commit murder against the mother and child victim.

Sharpe's bond was set during a hearing on Monday at $200,000 on the original charge of criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 11. A second bond hearing for the additional charges will be held July 25.
