Lexington County, SC (WACH) - Two people have been arrested after briefly going on the run following a deadly hit-and-run crash Monday afternoon near the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.

Four cars were involved in the wreck on S.C. 302 around three o'clock Monday afternoon just outside the entrance to the airport. One person was killed in the crash and two others were hospitalized.

Coroner Harry O. Harman identified the person who was killed as 64-year-old Ronald W. Mitchell of Lexington. Mitchell was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple body trauma.

According to Harman, a black pickup truck traveling eastbound toward South Congaree lost control and went into oncoming traffic, striking a white pickup truck driven by Mitchell. That initial collision caused a chain reaction involving a U.S. Postal Service truck and a Ford Thunderbird.

Trooper Brent Kelly of the SC Highway Patrol said Sheldon Dubois, 19,  and a 17-year-old passenger fled the scene following the crash.  Kelly says Dubois was traveling south on S.C. 302 when he lost control and went into the northbound lane when the crash happened. The pair was caught around 6:30 Monday night.

Dubois faces several charges including reckless homicide, and driving under suspension.  The 17-year-old also faces charges, as well as a 32-year-old Gadsden woman, Sharon Ellsworth, who is charged with allowing an unauthorized person to drive.

The wreck shut down two lanes of S.C. 302 for several hours.  The roadway was re-opened late Monday evening.
