RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) - A teen is behind bars Tueseday after being arrested a Richland County deputy Monday in connection with a neighborhood home burglary.
Sheriff Lott says a deputy saw Shawndrae Griffin, 17, running near Chatsworth Road carrying a laptop computer. Griffin refused to stop for questioning, but was quickly detained. The deputy received information of a home that had just been burglarized in the area.
Griffin reportedly admitted to the robbery and was arrested. He is facing burglary and larceny charges.
According to the sheriff's report, Griffin and an unknown suspect are accused of breaking into through the back door of a home Windsor Point Drive in Columbia. An owner of the home was working in the front yard of the home during the incident and came inside to see Griffin run out with a laptop computer. The homeowner called 9-1-1 from a neighbor's home. While making the call, another loud noise was heard. The second suspect broke a bedroom window to exit the house and flee the scene.
Lott says an HTC cell phone, Dell laptop computer, pink hand held AT&T receiver and cash were stolen from the home. All of the items, except for the cash, were recovered.
The second suspect is described as a male between 24 and 27 years of age who is around 5-foot-5 with a slim build. His nickname is said to be "Beans."
Griffin was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
