TRAVELERS REST, SC (FOX Carolina/WACH) - A Boy Scout from Columbia is recovering after the van he and several other scouts were riding in crashed into a creek in Greenville County on Friday.

Officials say the van crashed shortly after leaving Camp Old Indian in Travelers Rest Friday night.

The teen from Columbia suffered the most severe injuries in the crash. Mike Butler, Scout executive with the Blue Ridge Council for the Boy Scouts of America said the teen was entrapped in the van after the accident, and had to have his leg amputated. He's currently at the burn center in Augusta.

Out of the ten total that were injured, four boys remained in the hospital Sunday night .

Troopers said the accident happened off Callahan Mountain Road around 9:30 p.m. when the van ran off the road and flipped into the creek. The Highway Patrol said the van was driven by a 19-year-old driver and all of the passengers were between 14 and 16 years old.

We're told six of the young men involved in the accident were treated for scrapes and bruises following the accident. Scout officials said that some of the scouts were even tending to the injuries of those more severely injured in the crash.

The Glassy Mountain Fire Department said the van flipped upside down after it landed in the creek. Emergency workers had to lift the vehicle off the ground in order to free one of the passengers who was trapped.

Butler said one staff member and nine campers were inside the van. He said this week's camp session ended Saturday.

Two of the scout members still in the hospital are a part of Boy Scouts of America Troop 225, based out of Windemere, FL. A representative for that troop said Scouts Tyler Batty and Jacob Neff were listed in critical condition after the accident and are being cared for by Scout masters until they are reunited with their loved ones.

We're told relatives of both Scouts were headed to the Upstate Saturday afternoon. The remaining scouts arrived back in Florida Saturday night.

Two other scouts also remain in the hospital. A scout from Easley, as yet unidentified, is at Greenville Memorial Hospital, according to Butler.

Butler said the span between the main camp and where the van was headed was, at most, two miles.

The highway patrol is investigating what caused the accident.
