FORT JACKSON, SC (WACH) - Fort Jackson is fired up for its annual Independence Day celebration that will honor men and women in the armed forces from the Vietnam era.

The event is scheduled to take place at Hilton Field on July 4 at 8 p.m.

The ceremony will include a cannon salute to each state and territory of the United States and music by the 282nd Army band. A 30-minute fireworks display will wrap up the evening around 10 p.m.

Fort Jackson officials welcome the community to share in the festivities. They say people should plan to arrive early for the best seats and parking.

Vehicles should enter Fort Jackson through Gate 2 on Forest Drive at Strom Thurmond Blvd., Gate 4 on Percival Road at Boyden Arbor Road, or Gate 5 on Leesburg Road. The person driving must possess a valid driver's license, valid proof of insurance and a valid registration.

Motorcycle riders must also wear a Department of Transportation approved helmet, full-fingered gloves, over the ankle boots, long sleeved shirt/jacket and reflective vest or clothing.

Everyone attending must bring a valid state or government issued identification card for entry.

Random vehicle searches will be conducted at the gates.

Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets for use on the field. Bleacher and main grandstand seating will also be available, but coolers are discouraged in the bleachers. There will be Food and drink concessions at Hilton Field starting at 4 p.m.

Gates 1, 4 and 5 will become exit gates only at 8:45 p.m.

Traffic routes to the exit gates will be tightly controlled. Authorities ask that drivers pay attention to the departure directions.

Pets, grills, alcoholic beverages, firearms, and personal fireworks are not permited.
