WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WACH)--A Midland's teen diagnosed with a learning disorder has beat the odds and graduated at the top of her class.
Savannah Calvert was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder at an early age.
The disorder prevents the 18-year-old from staying focused on most of her daily activities.
"You have a lot of surprises in your life, said Savannah. "But studying for a test is definitely a problem."
Savannah's parents enrolled her in Glenforest when she was in sixth-grade.
Her father Barton Calvert who also struggles with ADHD is the Dean of Students at Glenforest School.
He believes the small classrooms and positive learning environment has helped his daughter build confidence in her learning abilities.
"We didn't create Savannah she was a gift we just allowed her to develop." Said Barton.
Savannah participated in sports, art and other extracurricular activities during her time at Glenforest.
Her work as a Student Government President has landed her in the Women's Leadership Program at Brevard, where she will attend college next year.
"So here's little Glenforest, little Savannah who couldn't read and now she's going to Brevard."
Savannah has a passion for helping children with special needs and plans to study psychology next year.
