COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Midlands residents are getting a chance to take home a feline friend at a reduced price over the Memorial Day holiday.
The Pawmetto Lifeline animal shelter is hosting a free cat adoption weekend. All adult cats are free with the purchase of a $40 starter kit. The kit includes cat litter, litter pan, toys, a scoop, carrier, and scratching board.
Kitten adoptions are cut in half to $75. All cats are spayed or neutered and all are micro chipped.
Director of Adoptions and Intake Donna Casamento said many four legged friends found homes on Saturday.
"There are so many wonderful cats in our community that can provide a wonderful companionship to folks. We have many in our community shelters around here that are being euthanized every day. They are euthanizing over 18,000 companion animals in our shelters."
The shelter will be open Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
