High speed chase leads to arrest of burglary suspect

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WACH) - A high speed chase Thursday lead to the arrest of a suspect wanted in several burglaries, according to the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office. 

Authorities say Jimmy Lee Parson, 44, of Columbia is accused of breaking into a a convenience store near the Carolina Motorsports Race Track on Highway 521 around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. Someone who lived near the store called 911 after hearing the alarm sound. Deputies observed the vehicle, which was similar to a vehicle used in the robbery of a fast food restaurant, a laundromant, a liquor store and a sandwhich shop Wednesday in Lugoff, and gave chase.

Parson was driving the vehicle that reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour during the chase, according to officials. A taser was used to subdue Parson who resisted arrest around 1:20 a.m. after being caught. At least two Kershaw County Sheriff's Office patrol cars were damaged during the chase, but no injuries were reported.

The sheriff's office is charging Parsons with five counts of burglary, resisting arrest, failure to stop for blue lights, assualt and battery of a high and aggravated nature, DUI and malicious injury to real property.

“The officers involved in this chase and apprehension did a great job. I wish I could give them a raise,” said Sheriff Jim Matthews.

The office says Parson is wanted for questioning in Richland, Lexington and Fairfield  counties for other burglaries. He is currently out on probabtion for burglary.

Parson is being held in the Kershaw County Detention Center.
