COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The Richland County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the pedestrian killed while walking across the street in Five Points early Saturday morning.

Coroner Gary Watts says 24-year-old Justin Timmerman was attempting to cross Harden Street near Greene Street, when he was hit by an SUV.  Watts says Timmerman died at the scene.

The driver, 24-year-old William Carlen, is charged with felony DUI, driving under suspension and failure to surrender a suspended driver’s license.

A judge set Carlen’s bail at $250,000 Sunday.

A sourse close to the Carlen family has confirmed to WACH Fox News that William Carlen is the son of former USC head football coach Jim Carlen.

Columbia police are still investigating the incident.
