Burglary suspect run over, killed after ATV incident

AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WACH) - A person of interest in an Aiken County burglary was run over and killed after being ejected from an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV).

According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, Robert Lee Hallinquest, 43, of Williston was pronounced dead on the scene of a crash on Skyland Farm Road.

Hallinquest was driving an ATV north on Skyland Farm Road when he was thrown from the ATV into the southbound lane. Authorities are not sure why he was ejected from the vehicle.

Carlton says Hallinquest was then run over by an approaching vehicle.

A witness that was in another vehcile avoided hitting Hallinquest who was lying motionless in the road, but a second vehicle was unable to avoid stiking him.

Hallinquest was a person of interest in a burglary that occured minutes before the crash, according to officials. Items from the burglary were discovered at the scene.

The crash happened at 9:40 p.m. and the burglary happened at 9:36 p.m.

The highway patrol and the coroner's office are investigating the crash.

The incident was the eighth deadly crash in Aiken County this year.
