LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WACH) - More than half a dozen inmates at the Lexington County Detention center celebrated their graduation from a job-skills assessment program Monday morning.
A graduation ceremony was held in a Lexington courtroom around 11 a.m. Monday for 16 Lexington County Detention Center inmates that successfully cojmpleted the WorkKeys job-skills assesment program.
The program is administered by ACT, which provides educational testing and workforce development services across the United States.
Adult education teachers conducted the program in partnership with Lexington County School District Two and Lexington County School District Four.
Sheriff James Metts says the program was conducted at no cost to the department, and it was the first time that the program has been offered to inmates at the detention center.
"The program enables inmates to demonstrate to prospective employers that they have the necessary skills to perform particular jobs," Metts said. "They program also provides inmates with information about jobs that would best fit their skills."
The program gives inmates a chance to learn about additional training and skill development that is available to increase their opportunities to obtain a full-time job after they are released from the detention center.
