COLUMBIA (WACH)-Supporters showed up Saturday by the masses for "A March for Justice" in memory of Trayvon Martin at Finlay Park.

Hoodies were worn by young men who were also carrying skittles and cans of iced tea.

Organizers say the non-violent demonstration gives Columbia and South Carolina an opportunity to show support for the family of Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed last month in Florida.

March organizer Kyle Green says he was overwhelmed by the number of supporters for Trayvon Martin and his family.

"When I saw Trayvon's mom after they had the million hoodie march in New York, and I heard her say it could be your child, it kind of struck," said Greene.

He says the event came together in less than  3 days thanks to social media.

"We are no longer a country divided by oceans but a world connected by media thats social; social media," said Greene.

Organizer Melody William's who also helped get the word out about Saturday's march was pleased with the turn out.

"I see all races, I see all religions, everybody is one today. This isn't a black and white thing, it's a people thing," said Williams.

The impact of the case spread to the State House last week, and Bamberg County democrat Bakari Sellers filed a measure to eliminate South Carolina's "Stand your Ground" provision.
