CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Police warned The Citadel more than a decade ago about questionable behavior involving counselors and campers at the school's Charleston campus.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Sunday (http://bit.ly/AAULKC) that Sgt. Dale Middleton wrote to the school's commandant in August 2001 that counselors discussed sex around campers and that some young campers were in bed with counselors.

One year after Middleton's letter, counselor Louis "Skip" ReVille reportedly hosted young boys in his dorm room to watch pornographic videos and masturbate. ReVille has been indicted on 22 felony counts of molesting boys.

The Citadel's president has said the school should have done more when a camper complained in 2007 that ReVille had molested him.

The paper obtained the letter in response to a federal Freedom of Information Act request.
