LEXINGTON, S.C. (WACH) - Family and friends have scheduled an awareness gathering for a West Columbia man who has been missing since December.

Michael Jody George, 22, was last reported seen on Dec. 24, 2012 at Shooters Bar and Grill on Charleston Highway in West Columbia.

The awareness gathering is scheduled to be held in the parking lot of Shooters Bar and Grill at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 18.

Facebook page and a website have been created to share information and awareness on the case.

"I would just like to stress once again that we are not the police nor or we affiliated in any way with the police. We are simply mothers and friends who are volunteering our time to help spread awareness about Mike and act as a Family Advocate for the George family...Any information is greatly appreciated," states a post on the Facebook page.

Family members, friends, and supporters from the Facebook page plan to attend the upcoming gathering.

John Olin Wannamaker, George's brother, told deputies that he last spoke to his brother at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 23.

George’s father, Gary Frederick George, contacted the Sheriff’s Department around 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 25, and reported that he found Michael George’s 1994 black Nissan Sentra parked on Beckman Road between Cannaberry Drive and Lena Drive near West Columbia, according to Lexington County Sheriff James Metts.

Deputies and detectives conducted a ground search on Dec. 25 and ground and aerial searches using a helicopter on Dec. 26 in the area where Michael George’s car was found.
The searches did not generate any leads concerning Michael’s whereabouts.

Detectives determined that Michael George became highly intoxicated on Saturday, Dec. 24 while drinking alcohol at a bar on Charleston Highway near Cayce.

Lexington County investigators have spoken to a person they say took George home from the bar. Currently, no arrests have been made and there are no fresh leads into what happened to him.
