RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. -- Midlands veterans got a special tribute thanks to local high school students.

The second annual Valentines for Vets Day was held Tuesday morning at Richland Northeast High School. Current and former servicemen and women shared their stories and experiences with students.

The event is held on Valentines Day to show the love for men and women in the military and was a great success last year.

History teacher and Project Director Perry McLeod said students got a new appreciation for veterans sacrifices.

"A lot of these veterans have stories that will never be told in a textbook. And I see that history is taught very quickly. You rarely see the personal side of history in textbooks. So this is our opportunity to share those stories with the students."
