Seven arrested in Richland County deputy assault

Columbia, SC (WACH)- The Richland County Sheriff's Department makes 8 arrests after deputy assault

Sheriff Leon Lott said Alford Goodwin III, 24, was arrested  Tuesday, February 7, at 3007 East Way Park for obstruction and criminal domestic violence.


A deputy went to the Starlite subdivision in reference to drug activity and attempted to take Warren Spruill Jr. into custody. A struggle ensued while the deputy was placing Spruill under arrest, numerous individuals interfered with the deputy in his duty; Warren Spruill Sr. attempted to stab the deputy with a screw driver. During this altercation Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Spruill Jr. fled the area.
 
Spruill Jr. was wanted  for aggravated assault that occurred on October 21, 2010 at 4500 Bluff Road (Goodwin’s Store). Richland County Deputies arrived on the scene and found the victim lying on the ground in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to the lower body.  

When deputies asked the victim who shot him he replied, “Juan Jr.” referring to Warren Spruill Jr. but didn't cooperate when further questioned about the incident. Upon further investigation from witnesses at the scene the fight stemmed from a dispute between the two.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrests of Warren Spruill Jr., 26, for assault of a police officer, assault of a high and aggravated nature, resisting arrest, loitering narcotics, pedestrian in roadway, and larceny. Warren Spruill Sr.,52, for assault of a police officer, and interference with police while arrest. Robert Allen Javis,24, for assault on a police officer, interference with police while arrest, and loitering narcotics. Bryan Threatt,  43, for interference with police while arrest. Charles Epps, 27, for public disorderly conduct. Ypreshus Tyshayla Gibbs, 27, for interference with police while arrest. 

All were transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.  Additional charges may be filed.
