AIKEN, SC (WACH)- The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has obtained warrnts in connection with the shooting of an Aiken police officer.
19-year-old Stephon Carter of Aiken will be charged with Murder and Attempted Murder. Carter is believed to have shot and killed Master Public Safety Officer Scotty Richardson was shot during a motor vehicle stop on Tuesday at approximately 8:28 p.m., and taken to Georgia Health Sciences University where he died.
Officer Richardson, age 33, joined Aiken Public Safety in 1999 as a cadet, and became a public safety officer in 2005, according to Turno, and leaves a wife and 3 young children.
Public Safety Officer Travis Griffin was also shot during the incident; however, his bulletproof vest prevented a life threatening injury. He was treated and released after the incident.
