COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A couple local churches tried to give those less fortunate something to be thankful for Thursday.

St. Peter's and First Baptist Churches hosted the 21st annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Dinner Thursday at the Carolina Coliseum.

Hundreds of people lined up around the building for a good, hot meal.

Organizers say this event gives visitors a chance to scoot up to a special dinner table.

"Really, all we're trying to do is - for a couple hours - give people a safe place to be; a place where they can enjoy themselves," explains Ron Paull of First Baptist Church.  "We're trying to show them the love of Christ, and that's our mission."

St. Peter's and First Baptist also packed and delivered about 1,000 meals to nursing homes and faith-based organizations in the community.
