COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's Gov. Nikki Haley's chef has been ordered to stop doing sideline catering work at the Governor's Mansion complex after The Associated Press questioned his use of official email to handle and recruit clients.

Haley spokesman Rob Godfrey says chef Geoff Sandifer can't use state resources for his sideline business and has to reimburse the state.

Sandifer did not respond on Wednesday to interview requests and Godfrey said he won't make Sandifer available.

The governor's office provided nearly 2,000 pages of emails and other documents detailing lengthy communications with catering clients on Sandifer's official email account.

State Ethics Commission Executive Director Herb Hayden says using resources like email for a personal, family or business profit can bring a $2,000 fine.
