CHARLESTON (AP) -- Citadel president John Rosa says the Charleston military college has lost public trust because of the way it handled reports of sex abuse four years ago. And he says the school is bringing in an outside company to review the procedures in handling such situations with an eye toward making improvements.

An attorney for the victim's family says the college should have gone to the police. Mullins McLeod says the family was distraught to discover the school never told authorities about 32-year-old Louis ReVille, who abused their son in 2002.

ReVille faces five charges of child abuse in other incidents. McLeod says those would have never happened if the Citadel officials had gone to police in 2007.

Rosa agrees that the Citadel should have done more to pursue the matter.
