LEXINGTON (WACH) -- A viral video has earned Lexington Medical Center $10,000 to donate to the Vera Bradley Foundation for breast cancer research.

“The Pink Glove Dance video competition gave Lexington Medical Center an incredible opportunity to showcase the level of passion that our employees have for breast cancer awareness, our community and for each other,” said Barbara Willm, vice president of Community Relations at Lexington Medical Center.  “This was truly a team effort and we could not be more proud of our staff for their commitment.” 

More than 60,000 people voted for the hospital's "Pink Glove Dance" video, beating out submissions from 135 hospitals, nursing homes, schools and other organizations from 40 states and Canada to take the Medline Pink Glove Dance contest prize.

"All the dollars that the Vera Bradley Foundation raises goes towards our $20 million commitment to the Indiana University Cancer Center. There they have some of the best cancer researchers in the country,” says Catherine Hill, Executive Director, Vera Bradley Foundation.

“Congratulations to the staff at Lexington Medical Center for honoring the hundreds of thousands of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer each year,” said Sue MacInnes, Medline’s chief marketing officer.  “The passion and energy the staff at Lexington Medical Center displayed is infectious and inspiring.  They, along with all of the competitors, are helping to make Medline’s Pink Glove Dance a ‘movement’ in every sense of the word.”

Hundreds of hospital employees, volunteers and cancer survivers performed in the video -- all sporting pink gloves.

The national competition is designed to raise awareness about breast cancer.
