Two Gamecocks honored by SEC this week

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Two Gamecocks picked up weekly honors for their 14-12 winning performance against Mississippi State Saturday.

D.J. Swearinger was named co-SEC Defensive Player of the Week and Bruce Ellington was named co-SEC Freshman of the Week by the conference Monday.

Swearinger recorded a career high 12 tackles and  a crucial interception Saturday.  Ellington tallied big plays in several areas that helped lead to the win.

The Gamecocks also picked up the 14 spot in the first BCS standings of 2011, but lost key offensive-player Marcus Lattimore due to injury.

USC takes on Tennessee on the road October 29 following a bye week this coming Saturday.  The game will be televised on either ESPN or ESPN2 with kickoff at 7:15 p.m.
