COLUMBIA (WACH)-It is estimated that there are 10,000 amputees in the Columbia area but no support group for amputees to share stories and help each other.

AmputeesCAN, is a new support group formed by amputee Candace Bartman, seeks to give amputees education and bring them together.

Its well known that amputees recover more quickly and more fully if they are visited by a peer early on in the process and have access to others who have shared their experience and are adjusted and thriving.

AmputeesCAN will hold their first meeting Thursday, October 13 at 6:30 pm at the Virginia Wingard Memorial United Methodist Church on Broad River Road, across from Dutch Square shopping center.
