Cain edges out Romney as leader of latest SC primary poll

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A new presidential primary poll in South Carolina places Georgia businessman Herman Cain as the top contender.

Likely Republican voters in the Palmetto State told American Research Group, Inc. if the 2012 GOP primary was held today, they'd cast their ballot in favor of Cain, closely followed by Former Massachusetts Gov. Romney and Texas Gov. Rick Perry.  Twelve percent of the 600 people polled by telephone said they were still undecided in the survey that took place between October 5 and 10.

Officials say the poll has a margin of error of +/- 4 percentage points.

In the last Winthrop poll from September, likely GOP primary voters picked Texas Gov. Rick Perry as the favorite.
