COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The man who heads up the department charged with recruiting businesses to South Carolina revealed his secret to creating jobs Monday.

Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt told Rotary Club members government should play the role of "enablers" when luring companies to the state.

He says sometimes incentives are needed to set the table for companies like Bridgestone to expand in South Carolina.

Last month, the tire company announced it's bringing 850 jobs to the state.

"International companies get us and they know that we're good at making things in this state and they're coming to our door," Hitt said.  "They're coming to our door in remarkable numbers."

Hit adds, manufacturing jobs are up more than four percent since July of 2009 and South Carolina leads the Southeast in creating these kinds of jobs.
