COLUMBIA (WACH) - This week, the Gamecocks moved up a spot as the nation's 11th best team in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll and the Associated Press poll after knocking off conference rival Georgia 45-42 Saturday. Since that ranking came out, the Gamecocks moved up one more spot in the Associated Press Top 25 without playing a game. The AP corrected a balloting error meaning Carolina is now number 10. Nebraska drops to number 11. USC remains 11th in the Coaches Poll.

The USC victory marks the first time a Gamecock football team has beaten Georgia in back-to-back years since the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

The ranking is the highest for USC since 2006 when they reached number 7 in the polls.

South Carolina freshman defensive end Jadeveon Clowney lived up to his ranking as the nation's unanimous No. 1 overall player in the 2011 recruiting class by recording his first two sacks as a Gamecock. The defense played a major role in the team's victory with two defensive touchdowns. Special teams added another score to account for 28 of the teams' 45 points.

The Gamecocks now face Navy this weekend in the team's home opener. USC is a 17-point favorite.

What do you think about the Gamecocks as 17 point favorites over Navy this weekend?
