The University of South Carolina's Hollings Library is celebrating the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible with a special exhibition and lecture on its historical significance.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The University of South Carolina's Hollings Library is celebrating the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible with a special exhibition and lecture on its historical significance.
University spokeswoman Margaret Lamb says Dr. John de Witt, pastor emeritus of Columbia's First Presbyterian Church, is speaking Thursday afternoon on the subject.
Attendees may tour the library's collection of rare Bibles, including a folio printing of the King James version dated 1611. The first complete Bible in English, the Coverdale Bible from 1535, is also on display. A Bible from 1608 that is believed to have been brought to America by one of the Pilgrims is also to be on display.
The exhibit and lecture are free and open to the public.
