COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's educational television network is cutting 17 jobs as it deals with budget cuts and the loss of some federal grants.

The State newspaper reported Wednesday that the network decided to eliminate 15 full-time and two part-time positions.

An agency spokesman would not say what positions were being eliminated.

Six vacant positions will not be filled.

The moves leave ETV with fewer than 150 employees.

The network provides programs to more than 2,500 schools, colleges, businesses and government agencies.

Gov. Nikki Haley tried to eliminate state funding for the network, saying it should be funded by private sources. Lawmakers overrode her veto.
