(AP) -- (Dewees Island, SC) -Authorities say a small aircraft crashed in Charleston County, killing two people.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration says the aircraft crashed about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday on the shore of Dewees Island, 20 miles northeast of Charleston. Kathleen Bergen says the vehicle was destroyed, but whether it was an airplane or homemade glider of some sort was unclear.

WCSC-TV reports the two people inside the aircraft were found dead in the water. The Charleston County Sheriff's office says the craft was an ultralight Zodiac.
