Gas prices up following downward trend; SC remains cheapest

 Average retail gasoline prices in Columbia have risen nearly 12 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.39 per gallon Sunday. Nationally prices shot up too, but not as much.

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Average retail gasoline prices in Columbia have risen nearly 12 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.39 per gallon Sunday.

Nationally prices shot up too, but not as much. The national average has increased about 6 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.63 per gallon, according to ColumbiaGasPrices.com.

Including the change in gas prices in Columbia during the past week, prices Sunday were 97.5 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago but are a cent and a half lower per gallon than a month ago. The national average has dropped 9 cents per gallon during the last month and stands nearly 92 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

South Carolina still ranks the lowest state in the nation when it comes to cheap gas. Spartanburg, Greenville, Myrtle Beach and Columbia all rank in the top ten list of cities with the lowest average prices.
