COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Senators have resumed work on drawing lines for U.S. House seats for South Carolina.

The Senate has at least a dozen amendments to discuss Monday.

New election lines must be drawn every decade to account for population shifts in the census. Population gains gave South Carolina a new House seat.

The starting point for the Senate debate anchors the new seat in Horry and Florence counties and other counties near the state's northeastern corner along the North Carolina state line.
