CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say an 11-year-old Kershaw County boy has been killed in an ATV accident.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says Kyle Kelly died from head injuries when his 2004 Suzuki ATV went off the side of a road, struck an embankment and overturned at around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The coroner's office says Kyle was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene. The Highway Patrol and Kershaw County sheriff's office are investigating.

A law recently signed into law by Gov. Nikki Haley requires any ATV rider under 16 to wear a helmet and take a safety course. The new restrictions don't go into effect until July 1.
