COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Amazon.com’s Vice President of Global Public Policy is visiting the Midlands Tuesday. It is his first visit since state lawmakers approved a 5-year sales tax break for the online retailer.
Paul Misener spoke to the members of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce during a weekly breakfast. WACH Fox News is attending the event and will bring you the latest on-air and online.
"We're putting down roots here in South Carolina," said Misener Tuesday "we intend on being here a long long time."
Misener said Tuesday Amazon's revenue is growing more than 35 percent annually.
In exchange for state lawmakers approving the tax incentive, Amazon is putting 2000 people to work at its new distribution center in Lexington County and making a $125 million investment.
Melinda Price has been unemployed for more than a year. She’s says she will apply for a position. “I think it's a great opportunity, it's what this state needs and I’ve been unemployed for a whole year and so, as long as they've got benefits I’m ready to stand in line and apply,” she said.
